Influencer marketing has become big business on TikTok and Instagram, where popular creators can make good money by helping brands promote their stuff. Its product, called Thought Leader ads, launched in a limited capacity last year. LinkedIn introduced Thought Leader ads last year but with limited use. By opening up Thought Leader ads, LinkedIn is letting anyone boost a post as long as the author grants permission. Social media marketer Brendan Gahan is so bullish on the format that he's focusing much of his efforts on helping companies use Thought Leader ads.

The other day, a friend of mine liked one of my LinkedIn posts. AdvertisementWhy LinkedIn feels so cringeAs much as LinkedIn is a professional platform, something about it feels really personal. There's a reason social-media accounts like Best of LinkedIn, which pokes fun at over-the-top LinkedIn posts, exist. Given the weakness of the official advice, I decided to ask a bunch of people for tips on how to post in a non-cringe way on LinkedIn. I also asked a pair of social-media managers — one at Business Insider and one at a different company — for their thoughts on LinkedIn posting.

During baseball season, the public buses in Houston flash a message as they rumble through the city: “Go Astros! !”A similar sort of communal baseball spirit has not typically surrounded the Texas Rangers, a team whose claim to the hearts of all Texans had, until their World Series victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, been stymied by having never won a championship in their 51 years since relocating to the North Texas city of Arlington. Wedged between Dallas and Fort Worth, the city forms an almost seamless part of a sprawling urban agglomeration, a fast-growing and sports-crazed area of a fast-growing and sports-crazed state, where winners are prized and football — in particular, the Dallas Cowboys — has been dominant. But as the Rangers kept winning and winning, fans emerged. Excitement in October became palpable across the connected cities.

The one major app that's eluded him: Twitter. Threads skyrocketed out of the gate in large part because it was easy for existing Instagram users to create accounts on the new messaging service and connect with their established following. watch nowCurrently, Threads users are unable to search for topics or hashtags that represent hot topics. That could entice some people to use Twitter over Threads, said Tameka Bazile, who works in artist relations and marketing at Time. Like with Threads, creators will wait to see how Twitter works for their peers before "spending much more time making content there," Kaletsky said.

On Tuesday, Phoenix was poised to break its own record for consecutive days of high temperatures of at least 110 degrees. “We see people passing out from full-blown heat stroke with a core body temperature of 104 degrees,” he said. The persistent heat in the Southwest is the result of a high-pressure system that has been parked over the region for weeks. Credit... On Monday, Phoenix reached a miserable milestone: It was the first time since 1974 that it had 18 days in a row of 110-degree or more temperatures. Phoenix has had plenty of days that soar past 100 degrees. “It just feels awful,” said Mazey Christensen, 20, a scooper at Sweet Republic, an ice cream shop in Phoenix. Business at the store has been steady; on blistering days, customers tend to go for fruity flavors like watermelon sorbet and pineapple whip. But they mostly visit the shop later in the day when the sun is not so scorching.

Many Texans are familiar with the chorus of cicadas that fills the air on the hottest days of early July. It could be, at least in part, a result of the heat wave that has been baking the region and shows no signs of letting up. On Tuesday, the high temperature was expected to reach around 103 degrees in El Paso and San Antonio. “They start calling earlier because the minimum air temperature combined with solar radiation is reached earlier in the day,” he said. “They also call later into the afternoon and evening because they can maintain the elevated body temperatures for a longer period of time.”

As the heat index hit 115 degrees on Monday, Karla Perez took a five-minute water break at a construction site in Dallas. Such rest breaks are required by the city, as they are in Austin. But a change in Texas state law, which goes into effect in September, will wipe away those local requirements, leaving workers like Ms. Perez to count on their employers to provide time to rest and rehydrate. Right now, she gets three breaks a day. It is expected to nullify regulations such as those dealing with payday lending, puppy mills, certain sanitation requirements and other practices.

Investors are anxiously awaiting progress on a deal to raise the debt ceiling before June 1, which is the earliest date the Treasury Department has said the U.S. could default on its debt obligations. Biden has so far maintained that raising the debt ceiling is non-negotiable. McCarthy, however, has pushed for talks to broker a deal to raise the debt ceiling be tied to spending cuts.
Sisters Daniela and Sofia Mendoza, both in elementary school, were there with their mother. Aishwarya Thatikonda had come to shop with a friend before she had to head to a job site for her work at a general contracting firm. On Saturday, it became different kind of all-American scene: the location of yet another mass shooting. By the time a police officer shot and killed the gunman, eight people had suffered fatal wounds, including three small children. It was the country’s second-deadliest mass shooting this year, indiscriminately wiping out individuals, and nearly one entire family.
YouTube creator Taki Udon said his video was used as an ad without his permission. YouTube is letting advertisers use creators' video content as ads without their permission. He said that advertisers promoting creators' videos without their knowledge could risk a creator's audience and key metrics like watch time. TikTok has an ad program that allows advertisers to promote creators' videos but requires advertisers to first get permission from the creator. Meta-owned Instagram also requires advertisers to virtually agree to using a video by asking creators to opt-in to sharing their content with advertisers.
TikTok search ads have been in beta testing for almost a year on an invite-only basis. One agency source predicts TikTok search ads will become more widely available by Q3. As Google and Microsoft duke it out over the future leadership of artificial intelligence-powered search, TikTok is quietly preparing a big search advertising play of its own. These moves, as well as recent TikTok job posts looking for search ads engineers to develop a "large-scale ads system," indicate a wider rollout of TikTok's search ad product. A TikTok spokesperson said the details it could share about TikTok search ads were limited during its initial testing phase.
The opening ceremony in a tent-shaped stadium will be held at 1440 GMT, ahead of the first match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador. Few details were available on heads of state attending, but state media said the U.N. secretary general and Algeria's president arrived on Saturday. The smallest nation to hold soccer's biggest global event, Qatar, a wealthy gas producer, aims to bolster its credentials as a global player, display strength to rivals in the region and placate conservative Sunni Muslim Qataris. Many of the migrant workers who toiled to prepare Qatar's tournament infrastructure will watch from the sidelines, priced out of the stadiums. "When we came in it was like a bit of a work site," England fan Neil Gahan said in an area in Doha housing fan portacabins.

Hayley Bennett runs @that_coupon_chick, an Instagram page focused on coupons and deals, and recommends Ibotta as her favorite app. Everything was expensive and I was trying to find a way to save as much money as I could. I thought I was just going to use coupons here and there, save a little bit of money. Then I realized just how much this could really impact people and how much money you really could save. There's one app I recommend getting right awayI use a multitude of apps, but if anyone was going to get just one app, get Ibotta.
